6 Ways To Style Your Denim Skirt

Hey babes! I hope everyone is having a fantastic first week of April. Did anyone get majorly pranked for April Fools Day? Besides it SNOWING yesterday here in Charlotte, Mother Nature has finally decided to grace the Queen City with Spring weather. So yeah, to recap: April 2nd: 32 degrees & snow; April 3rd: A sunny 62 degrees and the most beautiful Spring day. I’ve given up trying to understand the weather this year.

I am pumped to show everyone the most adorable denim skirt in today’s post and show you six – count ’em, 6 – different ways to style it. There’s probably hundreds of other ways to style a denim skirt, but I wanted to provide some inspiration to get you started. You’ll see how easy it is to create different styles simply by changing out tops, shoes and jewelry!

The looks shown below start with cooler weather styles transitioning into Spring & Summer outfits as you scroll.

1. Basic Style

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love a good staple wardrobe piece. And this cutoff denim skirt 100% fits the bill.

Everything from the true blue denim color, high-waist cut, length, and deconstruction details makes this skirt so cute and flattering! I am wearing the size 28 and it fits well, maybe just a little large in the waist. I am in between a 27 & 28 pant size because my hips / booty need a 28 and my waist needs a 27 – oh, the tragedy of shopping as a woman. Originally, I ordered the 27 but had to exchange for 28 because it was too tight. My recommendation is to size up if you are in between sizes.

Once I got the right fit, I was so excited to start styling this piece. Here, you see me wearing it in a minimalist look with a simple white cami, dangly earrings and sandals. Cute, basic look for Summer!

I think you’re going to thank me for this one: This skirt is Levi’s and is available on T.J. Maxx online for under $20! The same skirt is selling at Nordstrom for $98 right now, so this is such a deal! T.J. Maxx looks to be down to limited sizes, so don’t wait to order if you want this skirt. I returned the smaller size in-store and did not see the skirt available there.

White Cami: This cami is on sale right now for only $25. Visit Not UR Ordinary Boutique’s website & use code NEMETH to receive an additional 15% off your entire purchase, including sale items. See my Not UR Ordinary Try-on post for more try-on details about this cami.

2. Add A Jacket

As we transition from Winter to Spring clothes, jackets are definitely a go-to for me. I keep several staple jackets in my closet that will match most anything to throw on with basic outfits or bring along when I know I’m going to be in the arctic tundra that is public air conditioning.

In this second style, I paired the denim skirt with a green utility jacket, white Converse and dangly earrings. This turns the look into a casual, comfortable and functional look in which you can stylishly run errands or wear out for a casual meal.

3. Sweater Weather

Another way to move from cool to warm weather is to utilize the sweaters already in your wardrobe. Everyone has sweater options that can be so cute when paired with a denim skirt.

I chose this striped cardigan to wear for this third style. Keeping the jewelry light and adding a pair of blush slip-on sneakers makes for a fun, comfortable look. Styling your denim skirt in this fashion is so versatile and the options for where you could wear a look like this are unlimited.

4. Spring Is In The Air

Moving into more Spring & Summer looks, this fourth denim skirt style is so simple and can be dressed up or down. Here, I styled a tucked-in long sleeve tee with different shoe options that completely transform the look.

This pink tee with the criss-cross detail is my favorite! Such a versatile option that is also available in a mint color, and in a short-sleeve version in other colors. This tee is a comfy lightweight material and pairs with a denim skirt so perfectly. The size medium fits me well. Size up if in between sizes.

You can wear a variety of different shoes with this style. I paired it with Converse and then with wedges and I honestly love both looks. The Converse are classic, while these gold-strap, beige espadrilles give this look a fancier feel. What shoes would you choose with this outfit?

  • Pink shirt: The long sleeve option is on sale for only $18 right now! Search for “Love My Life” on the Pink Lily website. The short-sleeve version is available for $30 in 4 colors. Search for “Say It Simply.”
  • Wedges: My new favorite wedges are under $50 and can be found by searching “Kristin.”

5. Hello Floral Print

You can’t go wrong with floral print for the Spring and Summer. For Mambo style #5, pair your denim skirt with a floral print top for an instant show-stopping outfit.

I adore this coral off-the-shoulder printed top. This top is pretty flowy, which can look weird with a form-fitting skirt, so I tucked it in to create a more uniform slimming style. Then, I paired the outfit with tan block heel peep-toes to complete the flirty look.

Block Heels: These block heel sandals are only $29.99 from T.J. Maxx online.

Floral Blouse: The Pink Lily Boutique no longer has this top, but they have so many other amazing off-the-shoulder blouses that would look so cute with your denim skirts. 6. Rock The Crop Top

Wasn’t sure I would ever have the confidence to wear a crop top but then the high-waist cut was like, “I gotchu, girl.” The perfect combo because we can wear crop tops without showing our belly buttons – yay! Disclaimer: If you want to show your belly button, you go right ahead, babe. Own it. Just not my personal preference 🙂

Pairing a crop top with your denim skirt is the cutest! I went with this striped off-the-shoulder top and added a pair of gladiator sandals and gold hoops. I am loving the finished look and want to go to the beach or a concert so I can wear it right now.
